Arabic Language Now Mandatory in Dubai Schools: What Parents Need to Know & How LearnGate Can Help

A Landmark Decision for Education in Dubai

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has introduced a new policy mandating Arabic language education for children from birth to six years at all private schools and early childhood centres in Dubai. This move aims to strengthen the cultural identity and linguistic heritage of the nation, and to ensure all residents – citizens and expatriates alike – are well-versed in the Arabic language.

The policy will be phased in from September 2025, with phase one covering Arabic language education for children aged four to six years. More phases will be rolled out in the coming years and cover all children from birth to six years, KHDA said today.

This development represents a significant shift in the UAE’s education policy and calls for immediate attention from parents, educators, and institutions to align with the new directive.

Why Arabic Language from an Early Age?

Arabic Language

Language acquisition is most effective during early childhood. Introducing Arabic from the preschool stage ensures:

  • Stronger language foundation for students.
  • Improved academic performance in Arabic-related subjects.
  • Better integration into UAE’s cultural and social fabric.
  • Enhanced communication skills in day-to-day life within the UAE.

For non-Arab families and students, this mandate presents both a valuable opportunity and a new responsibility.
